The 1816 United States presidential election was held from November 1 to December 4, 1816. The election was a contest between Democratic-Republican Party candidate James Monroe and Federalist Party candidate Rufus King. James Monroe emerged as the winner, securing 183 electoral votes to Rufus King’s 34 electoral votes.
