1976 Presidential Election: Jimmy Carter Won✓

The 1976 United States presidential election was held on November 2, 1976. The election was a contest between Republican nominee Gerald Ford, who had become President following Richard Nixon's resignation, and Democratic nominee Jimmy Carter, the former Governor of Georgia. Carter secured 297 electoral votes to Ford's 240, and received just over 50% of the popular vote.
