The 1980 United States presidential election was held on November 4, 1980. The election was a contest between Republican nominee Ronald Reagan, the former Governor of California, Democratic incumbent President Jimmy Carter. Reagan secured 489 electoral votes to Carter's 49, and received over 50% of the popular vote.
