WATCH: President Biden signs the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

On November 15, 2021, President Biden signed H.R.3684 - Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, into law. The bill provides funding for infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, passenger and freight rail, public transit, broadband, ports and waterways, airports, electric vehicle charging, and more. The bill passed in the U.S. House by a vote of 228-205 and passed by a vote of 69-30 in the U.S. Senate.

 

Key provisions:

  • The bill provides $110 billion for new funds for roads, bridges, and major projects and reauthorizes the surface transportation program for the next five years.

  • The bill provides $11 billion in transportation safety programs, including a new $5 billion Safe Streets for All program.

  • The bill provides $39 billion of new investment to modernize transit and improve accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities.

  • The bill provides $66 billion in rail to eliminate the Amtrak maintenance backlog, modernize the Northeast Corridor, and bring world-class rail service to areas outside the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

  • The bill provides $7.5 billion to build out the first-ever national network of EV chargers in the United States.

  • The bill provides $17 billion for port infrastructure and $25 billion for airports.

  • The bill provides $65 billion to increase broadband internet access for Americans.
